Church Renovation

In 2010 after several years of increasing problems in an ageing building, it was agreed by the members to engage an architect to identify where and how improvements could be made to the facilities within the building. Mr Roger Field was duly appointed to carry out a feasibility study and identify some options.  A plan was eventually agreed upon that provided a balance between retaining some of the original features and at the same time creating modern accessible facilities for worship, Sunday school and other uses.

In  2013 Mr Rob Jones of Blaenavon commenced work to provide improved access to  the building. This was achieved by changing the orientation of the porch from south facing to westward and creating a gradual sloping ramp to replace the original steep steps.

The work also included renovation to the three storeys of the annexe which housed stairs, vestries and toilets but a shortfall in funds only allowed work to be completed to two levels. These two storeys now house a Sunday School room with adjacent toilet, a dual purpose vestry/second Sunday School room, a disabled toilet and a new stairs.

In addition, a new heating system was installed and although many of us were initially reluctant to do so, the pews were replaced with comfortable, cheerfully red new chairs. This allowed the installation of a new entrance from the porch of sufficient width to admit wheelchairs.

We still have much to do. The interior of the Church need re-decorating and the basement room is still awaiting refurbishment.

As an independent Church we are reliant on members contributions and fundraising therefore all contributions are welcome.
